Gonorrhoea, a sexually transmitted infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, is a growing public health concern—especially as antibiotic resistance makes it harder to treat. With millions of new cases reported globally each year, prevention has become more important than ever.
Now, for the first time, there’s a major breakthrough: a gonorrhoea vaccine is available—and Northwell Medical is among the first to offer it. This marks a significant milestone in sexual health care, providing a proactive option for individuals at risk. The vaccine builds on earlier research, including a New Zealand study where a meningitis B vaccine was shown to reduce gonorrhoea cases by about 31%. New formulations have since been developed specifically for gonorrhoea prevention, and early trials show strong potential.
